Medical surveillance (statutory)

Sch XIII para 4: employed only if examined by the Certifying Surgeon within 7 days before first employment and certified fit; re-examined by the CS at least once each calendar month (or other interval specified). Health Register in Form 7; no re-employment after suspension without the CS's written sanction.

Hazard & health effects

Agent: Cellulose-nitrate (cine) film — highly flammable; toxic/inflammable solvents (acetone, tetrachloroethane, phenol, amyl/butyl acetate)

Health effects: Fire/flash burns; solvent narcosis, hepatotoxicity (tetrachloroethane), dermatitis.

Controls & PPE

Engineering controls: Solvent LEV; flammable-stock control and fire precautions; closed handling; ventilation.

PPE: Solvent-resistant gloves; respiratory protection for solvent vapour; eye protection; FR clothing near flammable film.
