Medical surveillance (statutory)

Sch IV para 11: examined by the Certifying Surgeon within 7 days before/after first employment in a specified process, thereafter once in every calendar month (or other interval specified). Health Register in Form 7; X-ray arrangements required; Forms index associates Form 23.

Hazard & health effects

Agent: Free silica dust; lead compounds (lead-glass); radiant heat / infrared

Health effects: Silicosis; lead poisoning; heat stress and infrared cataract; burns.

Controls & PPE

Engineering controls: LEV on batch mixing/handling; dust suppression; heat-shielding and screening; chest X-ray facility; cool rest areas.

PPE: Dust respirator; heat-reflective clothing and infrared-protective goggles for furnace work; gloves.
