Hazard & health effects

Agent: Carbon disulphide (manufacture in electric furnaces) — fire/explosion and CS₂ toxicity

Health effects: Fire/explosion burns and blast injury; CS₂ neuropsychiatric, cardiovascular and reproductive toxicity.

Controls & PPE

Engineering controls: Furnace enclosure; rupture discs and pressure relief; fire-fighting and ignition control; ventilation; washing facilities; fume controls per Sch XIV.

PPE: FR/anti-static clothing; respiratory protection for CS₂ vapour; gloves; eye protection.
