Not specified in this Schedule — Sch XIX governs construction/operation of CS₂ electric furnaces, rupture discs, fire-fighting and washing facilities (plant safety). Worker CS₂ fume-exposure surveillance lives instead under Schedule XIV (FMO 6-monthly + CS 12-monthly). General s.41C / periodic exam applies.

Hazard & health effects

Agent: Carbon disulphide (manufacture in electric furnaces) — fire/explosion and CS₂ toxicity

Health effects: Fire/explosion burns and blast injury; CS₂ neuropsychiatric, cardiovascular and reproductive toxicity.

Controls & PPE

Engineering controls: Furnace enclosure; rupture discs and pressure relief; fire-fighting and ignition control; ventilation; washing facilities; fume controls per Sch XIV.

PPE: FR/anti-static clothing; respiratory protection for CS₂ vapour; gloves; eye protection.
